Breast Health & Self Care

Ok lovelies, today I want to talk about a beautiful self care practice that is near and dear to my heart (literally!)

Breast Massage!🥭🥭

When I was doing the unit on breast health in my herbalist training I asked many women if they ever performed regular self exams and nearly every single woman said no. Why? Mostly because they didn’t feel like they knew what they were doing. Well, I’m here to rectify that.

Ladies, let me tell you, breast health is so SO important. In this day and age with xenoestrogens flying around like confetti at an Italian wedding it is tantamount that we learn to care for our bodies. Our lymphatic system is what moves environmental toxins like xenoestrogens (think plastic byproducts that attach to your hormone receptors and create free radicals leading to cancer) out of our bodies. However, since our breasts are mostly made up of fatty tissue and are lacking in muscle mass (which is what moves our lymphatic system along) it is very easy for them to become congested. This is when we get things like cyclical breast tenderness or clogged or enlarged milk ducts. All totally treatable with a little massage! And while you are all up in there you can simply check for lumps that are sharp or rough in texture (like broccoli 🥦) those are the ones that you definitely wanna get checked out by a Dr. Also, when you do this regularly (like every day!) you’ll know when something feels off, because you’ll know yourself, which leads to earlier diagnosis and more treatment options. Win win 😉

When giving myself a breast massage I like to use a little bit of flax oil with a few drops of rose essential oil (for heart opening) and rub in gentle circular motions making sure to also get all the lymph nodes located in the armpit.

Our breasts are the embodiment of the cosmic mother, and represent the place from which we nourish ourselves and those around us. So make sure to fill your own cup first loves, and give this crucial area some much needed attention. If you are experiencing breast pain and tenderness, you can try using an oil that has been infused with a lymphatic herb like calendula, or cleavers to get things moving again. Happy rubbing 😜🥰🌺🌺

With wild affection,
