Larger not higher
You hear a lot of talk in the new age world about connecting to our “higher selves”.
As if God(dess) is hierarchical.
As if you could pull yourself up by your boot straps into some morally superior version of yourself where you don’t have to eat and shit and grieve and die.
As if you could divorce yourself from the earth that you are. From the waters that you carry. From the fire in your heart.
As if you could be just air, and ether.
Clean, and pure, and no longer human. Detached, if you will, disembodied. Loftier, and thus more worthy.
As if some parts of yourself are better than others.
The truth, my love, is much more complicated than that, and much more beautiful.
It is the very pieces of yourself that are “smaller” “egoic” and “dark” that are your greatest link and connection to your larger self.
Not your higher self, but your larger self.
The part of you that dreams things before they happen, that knew the minute your loved one slipped from this earth, that feels goosebumps on your skin when your lover walks into the room, or all the little hairs raise on the back of your neck when danger is present.
This instinctual self is not “higher” than you. It is not something you have to work for or climb a ridiculous ladder of success to attain.
It’s something you lean into-it is your true nature. Who you were all along underneath all of the conditioned stories that you picked up from your family, and society.
It is not something that you can learn from me, or anyone else-although others can help to support and inspire the necessary gumption to dig deep and uncover.
Like birth (and death), it is a journey you must take for yourself. One that bridges the warmth and safety of darkness-with the bright new dawn.
We are like the networks of mycelium that run riot underneath the earth-so much of who we are is not visible.
Come, and light a candle in the dark. Illuminate your inner wisdom.
