Ritual Magic Basics

Ritual Magic ✨🔮✨⁣

I love creating little rituals. It’s something that brings me immense joy. And they can be simple-like singing a little song to my bath water before I get in it (water, water beautiful and bright, make my skin shine with delight) or they can be complicated like hiking to a remote spot in the woods at the appropriate time in the lunar cycle so I can find the perfect tree to bury a list of my dearest hopes and desires that I’ve made into a witches bundle complete with herbs & crystals while chanting an abundance mantra (yep I’m that woman 🤷🏻‍♀️😜).⁣

Ritual is a way for me to connect to my inner child. To remember a time when I was so unencumbered by what others thought of me that I would happily make “potions” out of 21 of my moms different body products and also weird ingredients from the fridge or the yard (sorry mom 😋). When special rocks, flowers, & blades of grass became pocket friends and protectors. When hucking cow patties or mud at my cousins was it’s own little form of hexing (and that shit really does come back at you x3 believe me!) It is a way of connecting into your subconscious beliefs about the world, and dropping a little intention into the womb of the great mother to be birthed into your life. ⁣

A ritual can be anything you want it to be, and it should be, because the magic lies in it being 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴.⁣

And there are also a few things that can help the process along. ⁣

1. Burning herbs to clear the space. It’s always easier to fill an empty cup than a full one and certain herbs are traditionally used to clear away old energy that’s no longer of use. Sage is one of these, but there are many. You can also burn a particular herb or resin to help call in what you are seeking like thyme for abundance! Many practitioners burn herbs for the entirety of their rituals or when making medicine to ensure that the space is kept energetically tidy.⁣

2. Setting up the space. This can look like casting a circle by calling in the 4 directions (@starhawk_spiral has some great tips on this in her book Spiral Dance) or simply saying a quick prayer to your higher guidance (whatever name you have for this be it god/dess or simply the universe etc). The point here is to tap into something bigger than yourself and to hand the results over to that higher intelligence. This is especially useful when you are seeking guidance because let’s face it, I’d rather have advice from source energy than whatever spirit just happens to be closest to my ritual space yeah? I mean you might get some solid results, but it’s a bit like playing spiritual roulette. I used to experiment with this by asking a question with my pendulum before saying a prayer, and after-totally different results! ⁣

3. Harness the power of poetry and song! Making a little ditty up about your intention can be so healing, and it connects our logical/rational brain to our creative side bridging the worlds. If that feels overwhelming to you-look up some traditional prayers or mantras-and sing your heart out! ⁣

4. When you are finished say a little prayer of gratitude to the powers you worked with that day to close the space. If your spirit guides are anything like mine they’ve pulled some long hours to help a sista out and deserve a little gratitude 🙏🏻 ☺️⁣

Happy witchin’ and as always,⁣

With Wild Affection 🌹⁣
